Challenges
The position requirement was a key appointment that was absolutely critical to the future growth of the business. PCL Ceramics had previously struggled to find the best profile for their company to fulfil this position. The ceramics industry is conventional and long-established, so finding innovative candidates with new technology expertise can be challenging.
Objectives
We were appointed to find a Director to lead the client's new technology development for non-core products. The New Technology Director would be instrumental in developing and delivering new technology road maps, new products, developing and implementing a winning new technology strategy and creating a profitable revenue stream.
Our Solutions
The Search
We initially approached UK candidates with a high level of ceramics expertise and then went on to expand the search to automation and plastics sectors which use similar technologies.
Ongoing Support
Throughout the search we offered the client key insight on market salary expectations, supported by bench marking analysis. We also provided support and advice on the shift to hybrid and flexible working, post pandemic and how this could be implemented with the new vacancy to make the position more attractive.
Overcoming Difficulties
This was a specialist position within a niche industry. We adapted to the market, allocated 30% additional resource, and expanded the search to include candidates with transferable skills.
